The Ultimate Family Adventure

‘’Mum look! It’s a nice castle! ‘’ I am daydreaming, and the voice of my sweet girl interrupts my dreams and thoughts. We are seating comfortably in a 50-seater brand new and super clean bus, and we are heading to the second longest suspension bridge of Germany: The Geierlay Bridge in Mörsdorf.
Next to me is my husband, who is enjoying a calm and resting moment, listening to his favorite podcast, and holding my hand. It is rarely this happens because normally he’s driving our car during our road trips.
But this time we decided to go for Day Trip with emile weber by bus. It was the best decision ever. We only had to drive from our home to the Park & Ride in Bouillon where the Bus was waiting for us.
The reservation was easy, as everything can be done online. It took only a few minutes to browse the user-friendly website www.daytrips.lu which is available in different languages. The Day Trips are nicely presented, with details on timings, prices, summary information on the destination and beautiful pictures to make you dream.
The variety of the Day Trips by bus is also quite impressive. There is something for everyone: City Trips & Shopping, Music & Shows, Theme Parks & Museums, Special Events, Fairs & Exhibitions, Active and even prolonged ones.
We were looking for a destination we had never been before and something where we could enjoy nature. Before the Day Trip to Geierlay Bridge we received confirmation and vouchers and confirmed our preferred pick-up point.
The day of the trip there is lots of enthusiasm: The children woke up early, had already prepared games and books we would enjoy during the bus trip. I would suggest you bring pocket size games in accordance with the age of your children to keep them entertained during the journey but do not bring too much.
Children will love to look out of the window, and you can try different games, like recognizing and memorizing car brand names or car plates or naming what you see through the window in different languages or simply enjoy the views from the big windows. My children brough their crochet, some brain games and 2 books.
We also brought some snacks with us, and water and we could leave the games and books inside the bus when we reached the destination.
In the beginning of the journey our bus driver, welcomes us on board, explains the itinerary and travel times, the usage of the air condition and the usage of toilet.
What I loved about traveling by bus is that it gives you a different perspective and allows you to see things that you wouldn’t be able to see from your car, especially if you were driving it.
During the trip, we are amazed by the beauty of the scenery outside the window. To get to the Geierlay Bridge we travel some kilometers along the Mosel where the bus drops off some travelers at the picturesque Bernkastel-Kues.
From green fields to vast forests, from highways to smaller roads, crossing bridges, rivers, and lakes we arrive at our destination: Mörsdorf in Germany.
The bus driver indicates what time the pickup would be for the return trip and where. He also shows us which direction to take to reach the bridge as there is approximately 20 minutes’ walk on foot, however the path leading to the bridge has several stations for the children to be kept entertained.
As we could relax in the bus, even had a small nap, we were full of energy to walk to the bridge.
Indeed, the moment you reach the bridge, there is an ‘’aww’’ feeling. Even if you have seen Geierlay bridge many times on photos on internet and social media, the feeling of being next to it does not compare to the photos. The view is breathtaking, the bridge stretches for a long distance and there are people on the bridge that the farer they walk the smaller they look.
‘’Come mummy! let’s go! ‘’ my girls say, and we are ready to cross the bridge. “Oops it’s moving!” Awesome or scary I ask them? ‘’Awesome” they say.
Luckily after so much walking and adrenaline, the bus is waiting for us on the way back. The smiling driver asks us how we liked the bridge and wishes us a nice rest during the ride back home.
We are sitting comfortably on the bus, looking at the photos and videos we took and thinking what an amazing day we had. As the bus starts to roll, my daughter whispers in my ear ‘’When will be our next bus trip with emile weber “? Soon, I reply and we both smile.
